St Wilfrid’s church strives to be a place that is fully accessible for all people and inclusive of all people.
We welcome you.......
Being a welcoming church, we show God’s love and grace at work in a community of people, that sets an example to the world around.
Jesus came that we might have life to the full and commanded us to love one another. In loving we recognise that God sent his son for the whole world and in this all are equal, all have a place in his kingdom and are loved by him. He sat with the marginalised and gave them a place at his table.
The apostle Paul speaks of the honour that the church should give to those who are less able, recognising that they to have a part to play in the body of Christ. (1 Corinthians 12:22-23). Without each other we are an incomplete representation of the body of Christ.
We are currently running an audit of our church building, facilities and activities as we look to be more inclusive and accessible specifically for those who live with disability, both seen and unseen.
Some of the things we have in place currently include:
A loop system
Large print and clear visuals for our services
Signage that is dementia friendly
Clearly marked out space for wheelchair users and wheelchair friendly servery.
St Wilfrid's is an all inclusive church. Here we work together to celebrate the glorious diversity of humanity, both in the church and in our community. We offer a gentle, reflective and non-intrusive space for people of all faiths, and none.
We believe strongly in the full inclusion of LGBT+ people in all areas of life and faith, and have been striving for this for well over half a century.
Unfortunately, at the present time we are unable to provide gay marriages due to Church of England Canon Law. This does not stop us offering affirming and non-judgemental pastoral support to all who come through our doors.
